Isabella, oriental dance teacher has since 2005 her own dancing school “Shayla” where she instructs her students in the art of oriental egyptian dance. She invites you to discover this style of dancing with its oriental rhythms played on the derbouka, a percussion instrument.Isabella welcomes you in her school throughout the year. Lesson (group and individual) are given in Belgium and France. (See above). Beginners lessons as well as lessons for those with experience are organised throughout the year with the intention of letting you discouver, develop or work on specific techniques such as the handling of the veil, certain rhythms or the use of finger cymbals, etc.The choreography for the advanced dancers is always to a theme.
From the age of 4 years During the lessons based on 1001 nights, the childrens discover and learn oriental dancing in a playful atmosphere. The children develop their sense of balance, how to synchoronise their body and its movements. Certain children with physical limitations benefit from dancing lessons as do children who have difficulties showing their emotions and shy children often “blossom” while dancing. Dancing lessons also awake the creativity in children and they develop an appreciation of music. The children work on choreography based on the stories of Aladdin, Ali baba, etc. This choreography delights the young children as they dance in their exotic costumes with sparkling sequins imagining they too are in 1001 nights.
Lessons for young teenagers and teenagers From the age of 8 years these children feel the need to “move” and copy their favourite singers and dancers in the process of developping their personality. The dancers are given the opportunity of showing their talents during certain events. The mix of oriental and techno dance has proved to be a great success with our young adult dancers.
Adult lessons The lesson is divided into 2 halves.
The first half starts a “warm-up” and relaxation. This enables the pupil to start the lesson in a relaxed state of mind. The next stage is to learn the “abdominal respiration” or “oriental” which is necessary for the movements of the upper body and abdomen with the minimum of effort and a maximum of suppleness. During the warm-up the muscles become supple and the joints too become supple due to easy and precise movements accompagned by soft music.
The second half consists of learning different techniques (hip and chest rotations, etc.). By listening to different oriental rhythms the ear develops its sense of musical appreciation. We work with different accessories essential to oriental dance, for example the cane, the veil, finger cymbols, etc..The oriental rhythms are learnt by dancing to the percussion instrument, the derbouka.Clothes: Leggings, body, dancing slippers or bare feet, oriental belt or scarf. (Not recommended: baggy trousers, jeans, sloppy t-shirt, shoes) The aims of the lessons are to learn to dance in a rhythmique and harmonious manner...to learn the basic techniques in order to make ones presence felt...to acquire self-confidence...develop and maintain the brains memory capacity...a healthy relation with ones body and soul...develop femininity...the lessons are given in an atmosphere of quiet confidence and joy. Listening and sharing are an important aspect too. Choreography lessons These lesson are for the dancers of the SHAYLA company...these lessons develop the precision between the technique and the dance...body expression...musical appreciation...it is recommended to take these lessons in conjunction with the oriental dance lessons.
